Ingredients:

  • 900g Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 15g cornstarch
  • 5g ground cinnamon
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 2.5g pure vanilla extract
  • 90g old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 125g all-purpose flour
  • 150g light brown sugar, packed
  • 2.5g kosher salt
  • 115g unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla until every slice is coated in the slurry.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to a 9x9 inch baking dish and level it out for even cooking.
  4. In the same bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fingertips to rub the butter into the dry ingredients until a crumbly texture forms.
  5. Evenly distribute the crumble topping over the apples. Bake for 35 minutes until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown and shattering.
