Ingredients:
- 4 large overripe bananas (approx. 450g)
- 0.25 cup brown sugar (50g) packed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (5ml)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 15.25 oz yellow or spice cake mix (432g)
- 0.75 cup salted butter (170g), sliced or melted
- 0.5 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (60g)
- 1 pinch sea salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel the bananas directly into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Use a potato masher or fork to crush the bananas until mostly smooth. Stir in the brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon directly in the pan until it forms a dark slurry.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the banana mixture. Use the back of a spoon to level the powder, but do not stir it into the bananas.
- Evenly distribute the chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the cake mix layer.
- Place thin slices of cold butter across the entire surface or pour melted butter evenly, ensuring as much of the dry mix is covered as possible.
- Bake for 50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the banana base is bubbling at the edges.
